Minutes of the meeting of 15 December 2011. The meeting took place in the Town Building
Conference Room, 16 Broad Street, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the Board present were
Rick Atherton, Robert DeCosta, and Whiting Willauer. Michael Kopko and Patricia Roggeveen
were absent. Also present were Town Manager C. Elizabeth Gibson, Planning Director Andrew
Vorce, and Executive Assistant to the Town Manager Erika Mooney. Chairman Atherton called the
meeting to order at 2:09 PM.
Mr. Vorce discussed the Egan property on Mill Hill Lane, noting it is owned by the Egan Foundation
Inc. and the Dorothy H. Egan Foundation, and is being offered for sale. Mr. Vorce noted the
property abuts open space parcels, is approximately 3.68 acres, and is valued at $6 million. He
said that if the property is eventually sold, it could be developed densely. A discussion followed on
whether the surrounding cemeteries or the Nantucket Land Bank might be interested in the
property. It was agreed that Chairman Atherton will meet with the boards of the foundations and
Mr. Vorce to discuss the property.
At 2:15 PM Mr. Vorce left the meeting. Mr. DeCosta moved to adjourn to executive session for the
purpose of approving the minutes of 4 August 2011 at 9:00 AM, 26 October 2011 at 9:00 AM, and
29 November 2011 at 8:45 AM; discussing litigation regarding the settlement of a pending lawsuit;
discussing strategy with respect to potential litigation regarding the validity of an Order of Taking of
69 Pleasant Street; considering the purchase, exchange, lease, or value of real property regarding
a side letter regarding possible conditions/agreements on the Island Lumber property pursuant to
Article 81 of the 2010 Annual Town Meeting, strategy regarding the rezoning/inclusion of certain
property in the vicinity of Old South Road and Lovers Lane into the Town Sewer District, a request
to Withdraw from Land Court Registration Lot 23 off Low Beach Road shown on Nantucket County
Registry of Deeds Plan No. 9596L and disposition strategy; and discussing National Grid parking;
Mr. Willauer seconded. So voted unanimously by roll call vote.
