Minutes of the Meeting of 4 August 2011. The meeting took place in the Second Floor
Administrative Conference Room, 4 Fairgrounds Road, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the
Board present were Rick Atherton, Robert DeCosta, Michael Kopko, and Whiting Willauer. Patricia
Roggeveen was absent. Also present were Town Manager C. Elizabeth Gibson, School
Superintendent Michael Cozort, Human Resources Director Patricia Perris, Labor Counsel Jack
Dolan, and Executive Assistant to the Town Manager Erika Mooney. Chairman Atherton called the
meeting to order at 9:11 AM.
Chairman Atherton asked the Board members if they would object to holding a public hearing
regarding the Children’s Beach boat ramp, as has been requested verbally by Richard Arnold,
most recently at the 3 August 2011 Board meeting. Mr. DeCosta said he feels a public hearing
should be held. The Board consensus was to schedule a public hearing for 21 September 2011.
At 9:13 AM Mr. Willauer moved to adjourn to executive session for the purpose of reviewing 2010 –
2011 executive session minutes for potential release; discussing an appeal by Herlitz Nominee
Trust/Sharpe from the Department of Environmental Protection’s denial of a Chapter 91 Waterways
License for a ramp and float to be located adjacent to Lot C, off K Street, Madaket; and collective
bargaining: strategy and municipal health insurance and not to return to open session; Mr.
DeCosta seconded. So voted unanimously by roll call vote.
Approved this 7th day of September, 2011.
