Minutes of the meeting of 6 October 2011. The meeting took place in the Town Building
Conference Room, 16 Broad Street, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the Board present were
Rick Atherton, Robert DeCosta, Michael Kopko, and Whiting Willauer. Patricia Roggeveen was
absent. Also present were Town Manager C. Elizabeth Gibson, Assistant Town Manager Gregg
Tivnan, Police Chief William Pittman, and Executive Assistant to the Town Manager Erika Mooney.
Chairman Atherton called the meeting to order at 9:00 AM.
Mr. Kopko inquired as to the status of the Nantucket Hunting Association lease and project.
Chairman Atherton suggested the matter will be placed on a Wednesday night agenda. Mr.
DeCosta asked that this be on hold for a few weeks as the Hunting Association has an application
before the Community Preservation Committee for funding for its conservation plan. Chairman
Atherton said the matter will be scheduled on the next Board meeting agenda, as well as a
discussion of the Airport procurement process.
At 9:03 AM Ms. Roggeveen joined the meeting.
At 9:03 AM Mr. Kopko moved to adjourn to executive session for the purpose of pending litigation/
strategy discussion regarding a personnel matter; the consideration of purchase, exchange, lease,
or value of real property: a) discussion regarding potential “One Big Beach” easement to be located
on Hulbert Avenue, b) update on a Request for Proposal to be issued for Fair Street, Lot 1
“Nantucket Yard Sale” parcel pursuant to vote on Article 121 of 2008 Annual Town Meeting, c)
update on RFP to be issued for 14 parcels pursuant to votes on Article 73 of 2007 Annual Town
Meeting, Article 76 of 2010 Annual Town Meeting, Article 77 of 2010 Annual Town Meeting;
discuss strategy with respect to litigation: Surfside 6 litigation review, not return to open session;
Mr. DeCosta seconded. So voted, all in favor by roll call vote.
Approved this 7th day of December, 2011.
