Minutes of the Meeting of 14 April 2010. The meeting took place in the Conference Room, Town
and County Building, 16 Broad Street, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the Board present were
Rick Atherton, Brian Chadwick, Michael Kopko, and Patricia Roggeveen. Chairman Kopko called
the meeting to order at 10:00 AM.
BOARD OF SELECTMEN ORGANIZATION
Swearing in Ceremony. Chairman Kopko offered his congratulations to Ms. Roggeveen on her re-
election to the Board at the April 13, 2010 annual town election; and, to Whitey Willauer on his
election. He also thanked Allen Reinhard for his work as Selectman. Town Clerk Catherine
Flanagan Stover administered the oath of office to Ms. Roggeveen and Mr. Willauer.
Election of Officers. Chairman Kopko reviewed the nomination process for chairman and vice
chairman. Chairman Kopko opened up the floor for nominations for the chairman of the Board of
Selectmen. Mr. Chadwick nominated Ms. Roggeveen and she accepted the nomination. Mr. Kopko
nominated Mr. Atherton and he accepted the nomination. No further nominations were made and
nominations were closed. The vote for Ms. Roggeveen as chairman was 3 to 2 with Ms.
Roggeveen, Mr. Willauer, and Mr. Chadwick in favor and Mr. Kopko and Mr. Atherton opposed.
The vote for Mr. Atherton as chairman was 2 to 3 with Mr. Kopko and Mr. Atherton in favor and Ms.
Roggeveen, Mr. Willauer, and Mr. Chadwick opposed. So voted to elect Ms. Roggeveen as
chairman. Nominations were then taken for vice chairman of the Board of Selectmen. Mr. Kopko
nominated Mr. Willauer, who accepted the nomination. No further nominations were made and
nominations were closed. The vote for Mr. Willauer as vice chairman was 4 to 0 with Ms.
Roggeveen, Mr. Willauer, Mr. Chadwick, and Mr. Kopko in favor. Mr. Atherton abstained. So voted
to elect Mr. Willauer as vice chairman. It was agreed to elect County Commission officers and the
Nantucket Regional Transit Authority Advisory Board officers at the 28 April 2010 meeting.
Ms. Stover requested that the Board send a letter to the Secretary of the Commonwealth certifying
that she was duly elected Town Clerk at the 13 April 2010 election. Mr. Kopko moved to certify the
vote of Town Clerk; Mr. Atherton seconded. All in favor, so voted.
The meeting was unanimously adjourned at 10:10 AM.
