BOARD OF SELECTMEN
Minutes of the meeting of 7 May 2009 at 9:00 AM. The meeting took place in the Conference
Room, 16 Broad Street, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the Board present were Rick Atherton,
Brian Chadwick, Michael Kopko, Allen Reinhard, and Patty Roggeveen. Chairman Kopko called
the meeting to order at 9:06 AM in open session.
Mr. Reinhard said on behalf of the Roads and Right of Way Committee, he will be bringing forth a
request to the Board for approval of granite “public way” markers. He also noted that the Roads
and Right of Way Committee has generated a gift to the Town for approximately 200 hours of
survey work in connection with placement of the markers.
Chairman Kopko said the Board needs clear guidelines on what is considered executive session
material and what can be discussed. He asked to arrange for someone from the District Attorney’s
office to discuss the Open Meeting Law with the Board. After some discussion, the Board was in
general agreement.
At 9:25 AM the Board meeting was recessed for a County Commission meeting. Chairman Kopko
called the Board of Selectmen meeting back into session at 9:27 AM.
Mr. Reinhard moved to adjourn to executive session for the purpose of discussing non-union
contract negotiations, real estate disposition, litigation, and collective bargaining and not to return
to open session; Mr. Atherton seconded. So voted unanimously by roll call vote.
