BOARD OF SELECTMEN
Minutes of the meeting of 7 April 2009 at 3:00 PM. The meeting took place in the Conference
Room, 16 Broad Street, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the Board present were Rick Atherton,
Michael Kopko, Allen Reinhard, and Patty Roggeveen. Mr. Chadwick was absent. Members of the
Finance Committee were also present. Chairman Kopko called the meeting to order at 3:00 PM.
Town Manager C. Elizabeth Gibson informed the Board that the Massachusetts Department of
Revenue (DOR) certified the Town’s Free Cash today, noting that in doing so, the DOR indicated
that a FY 2008 Solid Waste Enterprise Fund (SWEF) budget deficit of $725,841 must be funded.
Ms. Gibson distributed a summary sheet with a recommendation to allocate Free Cash to cover the
FY 2008 SWEF deficit. Discussion followed regarding the reallocation of Free Cash through
technical amendments which will need to be made, tonight, at the Annual Town Meeting. Ms.
Gibson reviewed Articles 10, 12, 13, 14, and 101, all of which are affected by the reallocation of
Free Cash. The Finance Committee formally voted to adopt the technical amendment to Article 6.
Chairman Kopko thanked the Finance Department for getting caught up with the audits and
meeting its deadlines, despite the last minute nature of the Free Cash certification.
The meeting was unanimously adjourned at 4:15 PM.
