Minutes of the Meeting of 6 October 2008 at 10:00 AM. The meeting took place in the Town
Building Conference Room, 16 Broad Street, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the Board present
were Michael Kopko, Brian Chadwick, Rick Atherton, Patricia Roggeveen, and Allen Reinhard.
Chairman Kopko called the meeting to order at 10:05 AM.
Request to Approve Letter of Support of Community Coalition Plan for Grant Funding Request.
Chairman Kopko apprised the Board that, pursuant to a request from Alan Holmlund, who is the
Massachusetts Department of Public Health Director for the Prevention of Suicide, the local Post
Traumatic Stress Management (PTSM) team and executive committee have been working to
finalize a document outlining initiatives put in place to decrease suicide contagion and prevent
further suicides on the Island. Chairman Kopko asked for Board approval to send the document to
Mr. Holmlund which outlines specific requests for funding and expert consultancy and training
needed to enhance the coalition and decrease the current lethality among Nantucket’s student
environment. Some discussion followed about the funding and its targeted uses, and Mr. Reinhard
moved to authorize the Chairman to execute, on behalf of the Board, a letter of support of the
Community Coalition Plan for grant funding; seconded by Ms. Roggeveen. So voted unanimously.
At 10:20 AM, Chairman Kopko polled the Board and Mr. Atherton, Mr. Chadwick, Ms. Roggeveen,
Mr. Reinhard and Chairman Kopko voted unanimously to adjourn to executive session, not to
return to open session, for the purpose of discussing litigation and real estate disposition.
Approved the 15th day of October 2008.
