Minutes of the Meeting of 8 May 2008 at 9:00 AM. The meeting took place in the 1st floor
Conference Room, Town and County Building, 16 Broad Street, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members
of the Board present were Patricia Roggeveen, Brian Chadwick, Allen Reinhard and Michael
Kopko. Rick Atherton was absent. Chairman Kopko called the meeting to order at 9:04 AM.
Discussion Concerning Siasconset Beach Preservation Fund. Mr. Reinhard expressed some
concern about potential exposure with regard to the erosion issues along Baxter Road and Ms.
Roggeveen suggested the Coastal Management Plan include examination of pertinent laws. Mr.
Reinhard noted the erosion problems at the west end of the island stating this will become a big
issue in the near future and expressed his opinion that a Coastal Management Plan may not offer
solutions for what the Town is facing. Town Counsel DeRensis stated he is concerned about the
Town’s liability and some discussion followed concerning a lawsuit against the County with certain
Sheep Pond Road property owners.
Discussion Concerning Waste Options Nantucket. Public Works Director Jeff Willett was present
and reviewed the protocol for reviewing and approving invoices submitted by Waste Options
Nantucket (WON) and some discussion followed
At 9:24 AM, Chairman Kopko polled the Board and Ms. Roggeveen, Mr. Reinhard, Mr. Chadwick
and Chairman Kopko voted unanimously to adjourn to Executive Session, not to return to Open
Session, for the purpose of discussing non-union contract negotiations, real estate disposition and
litigation.
