Minutes of the Meeting of 28 July 2008 at 10:00 AM. The meeting took place in the Conference
Room, Town and County Building, 16 Broad Street, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the Board
present were Rick Atherton, Allen Reinhard, Michael Kopko and Brian Chadwick. Patricia
Roggeveen was absent. Chairman Kopko called the meeting to order at 10:10 AM.
A discussion took place regarding a bill currently before the state legislature concerning eminent
domain takings. Mr. Reinhard moved to send a letter, as drafted by Town Counsel, to Senator
Robert O’Leary and Representative Eric Turkington expressing the Board’s opposition to House
Bill No. 1770; seconded by Mr. Atherton. So voted unanimously. It was noted that passage of this
Bill would cause specific difficulties for many of Nantucket’s programs, such as the One Big Beach
program and the Town’s initiative to create affordable housing on the island.
At 10:20 AM, Chairman Kopko polled the Board and Mr. Chadwick, Mr. Reinhard, Mr. Atherton and
Chairman Kopko voted unanimously to adjourn to Executive Session, not to return to Open
Session, for the purpose of discussing the reputation, character, and physical condition or mental
health rather than the professional competence, of an individual.
Approved the 20th day of August 2008.
