The meeting took place 2 Fairgrounds Road, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the Board present were Brian Chadwick, Patricia Roggeveen, Whiting Willauer, and Allen Reinhard. Mr. Kopko was absent. Chairman Willauer called the meeting to order at 1:35 PM. WORKSHOP MEETING Meeting with State Officials Regarding MGL Chapter 43D “Streamlined Permitting” Process. Representatives from the Planning Board, Finance Committee, and Nantucket Planning and Economic Development Commission joined the Board of Selectmen for the workshop. Planning Director Andrew Vorce began the workshop by giving a brief overview of the streamlined permitting process. Mr. Vorce then introduced Mike Mitchell and Nancy Radzevich from the Massachusetts Development Financing Agency (MassDevelopment), and Joshua Mant from the Massachusetts Office of Business Development (MOBD). Ms. Radzevich began her presentation by explaining that the streamlined permitting process was developed to address the problem of businesses leaving the state because municipal permitting can be very difficult. She further explained that this program is a voluntary local option program and its goal is to make permitting more efficient. In highlighting the benefits of the program, Ms. Radzevich indicated that communities that adopt streamlined permitting are able to identify where they want development to occur and are eligible for additional state funding. A discussion of how the program could be used on Nantucket followed. During the discussion Mr. Mant and Ms. Radzevich answered several questions as to the specifics of the program. OTHER BUSINESS Jeff Willett, Director, Department of Public Works, brought to the attention of the Board the need for a variance from the street opening regulations for water system work being done in Sconset. Bob Gardner, General Manager, Wannacomet Water, explained that the Wannacomet Water Company was managing a project to upgrade infrastructure for the Sconset Water Company. During the course of the work it was discovered that the water pipes do not run parallel to the road as expected and that a street opening would be necessary to replace old water pipes. The Board agreed to add the item to the agenda for its weekly meeting later in the day. The meeting was adjourned at 3:10 PM. Approved the 7th day of May 2008.
