The meeting took place in the Conference Room, 16 Broad Street, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the Board present were Brian Chadwick, Michael Kopko, Catherine Flanagan Stover and Whiting Willauer. Douglas Bennett was absent. Chairman Willauer called the meeting to order at 9:38 AM. Workshop Meeting Regarding Downtown Traffic Flow Issues. Town Administrator Libby Gibson introduced the matter, noting its prior review and determination of benefit by the administrative traffic safety workgroup, adding that this traffic flow change idea came forward from a citizen, Michael Orr of Quince Street. Police Chief Bill Pittman reviewed the proposed change to the traffic flow on Broad and Centre Streets and its effects. The Board discussed pros and cons of the changes. Fire Chief Mark McDougall spoke in support of the changes. Discussion followed on next steps. Transportation Planner Mike Burns shared a 1977 comprehensive traffic study and suggested delay of a decision until a new study is completed. He reviewed a one- to two-year timeline for such an approach. Workgroup member Jack Gardner spoke in support of trying the changes. The Board consented to place the matter on the February 7, 2007 agenda. The meeting adjourned at 10:22 AM. Approved the 21st day of February 2007.
