The meeting took place in the Conference Room, Town and County Building, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the Board present were Brian Chadwick, Michael Kopko, Allen Reinhard, Patricia Roggeveen and Whiting Willauer. Chairman Willauer called the meeting to order at 12:00 PM. Public Hearings 1. Public Hearing to Determine Tax Allocation by Classification (Chapter 369, Acts of 1982 as Amended) and Percentage, If Any, of Residential Exemption To Be Granted for Fiscal Year 2007 (continued from April 4, 2007 and March 28, 2007). Assessor Deborah Dilworth provided a report on the certification of new assessed values for 2007 just received from the Department of Revenue this morning. She reviewed the request for the Board to determine the tax allocation by classification for Fiscal Year 2007 and presented information and data relevant to making such determination as well as the fiscal effect of doing so. She asked for a percentage shift of 1.75 and a residential exemption not to exceed 20% and informed the Board that the Town has an excess levy capacity of $172,319. Mr. Chadwick moved to follow the recommendation of the Assessor to shift the rate of 1.75 to the commercial, industrial and personal property and to adopt a residential exemption of 20%. Mr. Kopko seconded. So voted unanimously. Discussion followed on whether or not there are ways to remedy the lateness of the certification process. Selectmen’s Reports. Mr. Chadwick shared a request to provide a recently found historic gavel originally given to the Town in 1898 for use by the Town Moderator. The Board consented to present the gavel to Moderator Sarah Alger at tonight’s Town Meeting and thereafter to the Town Clerk for safekeeping. At 12:28 PM, Chairman Willauer polled the Board and Mr. Chadwick, Mr. Kopko, Mr. Reinhard, Ms. Roggeveen and Chairman Willauer voted unanimously to adjourn to executive session, not to return to open session, for the purpose of discussing a real estate matter. Approved the 19th day of April 2007.
