HomeMy WebLinkAboutTaxi Advisory Committee Minutes March 16, 2010_201402041306571498Nantucket Taxi Advisory Committee Minutes for Meeting 3/16/2010 Meeting called to order at 10:00am Location 2 Fairgrounds Conference Room Members Present: David Sharpe, Wendy Watts, John O’Connor, and Jon St. Laurent; Absent: Lt. Angus Macvicar, David Larivee The minutes for the February 11, 2010 meeting were unanimously approved. David Sharpe confirmed with the TAC that all the previous minutes for October 2009 through January 2010 had been approved and will be posted to the town web-site. Jon St. Laurent brought up that since Mitch Carl resigned from the TAC and John O’Connor is on the board of the Chamber of Commerce and reports to them, maybe the replacement for the seventh seat on the committee does not have to represent the Chamber and may possibly be an At-Large member or representative of another group. Taxi Waiting List Procedures: Anne Mc Andrew was not able to attend the meeting. However, she did send a written list of the requirements to maintain ones position the waiting list for taxi licenses. The public notice for the list renewal time period was posted in the Inquirer and Mirror for five weeks prior to the sign up date for 2009. Since the dates change annually, Wendy Watts suggested that the town establish a set time period each year for the procedure. May first through thirty first was brought up as the Month of May is when the operator permits must be renewed and the taxi vehicle permits must be renewed May 15th -31st.Wendy Watts made a motion to recommend to the Town Manager that the renewal period for the taxi waiting list be scheduled for May 1st-31st every year starting in 2011, John O’Connor seconded and it was unanimously approved by a vote of the TAC. Park and Ride: The proposed Park and Ride program sponsored by the NRTA and others was discussed. The program has been outlined on the town website and in the newspapers. The proposal states the the start up cost will be approximately $1.6 mil, with an annual operation cost of $500,000.00 and the addition of four new buses at $250,000.00 each to accommodate people from the new lot at 2 Fairgrounds to the boats on a fifteen minute schedule with several stops on route to the wharfs. Discussion followed on the charge of the TAC on this issue with regard to affecting the taxi industry and the position that the NTOA should take, it was agreed upon that both committees should keep up on upcoming meetings and hearings on the subject. Round Table. A public hearing has been scheduled for April 21st; the TAC has made recommendations to the Town Manager on the following, Taxi Meters, Taxi Receipts and the annual schedule for the Taxi Waiting List renewals. The idea of adding a last page to the taxi regulations, for the operator applicant to sign and turn into the NPD as recognition that they have read, understand and will adhere to the town taxi regulations was discussed.
