Angus MacVicar, Mitch Carl, John O’Conner, Jon St. Laurent No approval of the previous meeting minutes was made as they were not yet available. The group reviewed Wendy Watts’ Power Point Presentation for the TAC. The report contains members, the Charge of the committee, topics under discussion, progress thus far, recommendations to this point and a conclusion. David Larivee commented that the presentation looks good and is a work in progress. A brief discussion on where the town was on the Taxi Meter issue followed. Jon St. Laurent set up a clip from a recording of the 2/18/2009 BOS meeting to help answer the question. The clip was a segment of the Plum TV broadcast that showed Chief William Pittman speaking to the BOS on why meters in the taxis on Nantucket were not the best option at this time. The reason for this was because of the taxi business model would require additional inspections and certifications from the Mass Weights and Measures Department because of the seasonal nature of the Island and in the event that a vehicle would need to be replaced. The Mass DWM could not guarantee that an inspector could be on the island in less than a two week time frame. Chief Pittman said that the NPD has developed a good working relationship with the taxi community. Chief Pittman also suggested the formation of a town taxi commission or committee based on the recommendation of the Nantucket Taxi Owners’ Association. A one year extension was placed in the regulations requiring meters by 6/1/2010. The TAC voted and approved to extend the monthly meetings to 1 ½ hours from 1 hour. The committee voted to research and implement a taxi meter test program upon approval of the Town Manager. The sub committee made up of David Sharpe, David Larivee and John O’Conner made a report of their progress. They have thus far identified four areas to address. Regulations, all drivers shall receive a copy of the taxi regulations to study and be tested on. Geographical Locations, to show that the driver have a familiarity with the island. History, the drivers shall be given a synopsis of the history of the island. Ambassador Section, an overview of what is to be expected, such as polite, friendly and professional service. The next meeting is scheduled for December 8, 2009 Location TBD The meeting adjoined at 11am
