HomeMy WebLinkAboutACNVT letter to BOS re HRP-H 4317 finalADVISORY COMMITTEE OF NONVOTING TAXPAYERS TOWN AND COUNTY BUILDING NANTUCKET, MA 02554 Board of Selectmen July 16, 2016 Town Building Nantucket, MA 02554 Recommendation in support of pending H. 4317 Affordable housing for seasonal and year round workers is of great concern to members of the ACNVT. The need is clear. Its shortage not only impacts island workers and their employers but also the maintenance of a well functioning, prospering community of seasonal and year round residents. The Town needs to draw on all its resources to achieve, at a minimum, 10% of its year-round housing stock qualifying as affordable. Failure to achieve this leaves single-family neighborhoods vulnerable to irresponsible developments. We have taken up affordable housing in each of our last six meetings in conversation with diverse Town leaders. With this background we today heard from our Town Manager and from the Town’s Independent Housing Consultant, focusing particularly on augmented funding for such housing which passage of pending H. 4317 could provide. Upon motion made, seconded and passed, our Committee gives its support to H. 4317 and recommends that every effort be given to ensure its passage. Nantucket should always be known as a welcoming place unstinting in its support of those adversely impacted by the high cost of housing. Respectfully, Donald Green Vice-Chairman, ACNVT
