HomeMy WebLinkAboutACNVT letter to BOS re HDC staffADVISORY COMMITTEE OF NONVOTING TAXPAYERS TOWN AND COUNTY BUILDING NANTUCKET, MA 02554 September 3, 2016 Board of Selectmen Town Building Nantucket, MA 02554    We are mindful of the issue raised by the Historic District Commission (HDC) regarding the administrative reporting relationship HDC staff has had and has in prospect. According to reports, your Board is set to meet with the HDC on Wednesday September 7 to review whether its staff should be in the Planning & Land Use Services department (PLUS) or otherwise. While making no recommendation whether or not HDC staff should be a part of PLUS, we urge that staff for HDC continue to come within the administrative authority of Town Administration as provided in the Town Charter Article IV, Section 4.4(b). That Charter provision came as an amendment, duly voted and approved, to resolve serious issues which had arisen in more than one board or commission of the Town. As amended the Charter allows considerable flexibility in the specifics of staff reporting relationships. This allows Town Administration, with your backing, to set up good working relations while assuring that each board and commission has the staff support required for it to best serve the Town. Respectfully, /s/ Justin Strauss Justin Strauss Chairman, ACNVT
