Medicare Cards
Please be on the lookout for
your/your family member’s new
medicare card! The new
Medicare cards are being mailed
between April 2018-April 2019.
Please send or bring a copy of
your new card to the Business
Office at Our Island Home once
received.
Staff Update:
Michelle Kerwin, RN
Michelle, formerly one of our
great nighttime charge nurses,
has accepted the position of Our
Island Home’s Staff Development
Coordinator. In this new role,
Michelle is in charge of new staff
orientation and continuing
education of all staff members.
Her new position will have
Michelle here at OIH during the
daytime, so stop by the first office
next to the front doors and say
hi!
“End of Summer”
Party
Please join un on Monday,
September 10th at 4:00 pm for a fun
annual post-Labor Day party! OIH’s
favorite band, 4 EZ Payments, will
provide the entertainment, and we
will have lots of great food and
games for kids! All family and
friends are invited, and there is no
need to RSVP. We haven’t been
rained out yet, but in case of rain
this event will still go on as planned
with same date and time, and will
be moved to the dining room.
September 10th:
Annual “End of Summer Party” on
the OIH patio; dining room in case
of rain.
September 17th and 24th:
One of our most popular groups,
the Nantucket Community
School’s early childhood play
group, will resume (on a new day
and time!) on Monday, September
17th. All are welcome to come see
our residents enjoying playing
with Nantucket’s youngest
residents!
Family Council:
The next meeting is Wednesday,
August 15th at 10:00am. The
following month, Family Council
meeting will be on Wednesday,
September 19th at 10:00 am.
Live music:
We have live music performances
scheduled for 4 pm in the OIH
living room on: August 13th, 20th,
23rd, 27th and 30th; and September
3rd, 6th and 13th. Please join our
residents for classical and folk
music fun!
Massage therapy:
Starting in September, local
masseuse Berta Scott will be
coming to OIH once a week to
provide massages for our
residents! Berta’s visits are
enjoyed by many of our residents.
Upcoming Events
A big thank you to Nantucket’s DPW
for re-lettering the OIH van! She looks
great for our twice weekly van rides!

Local author Rob Benchley giving a talk
for our residents on his books, Scallop
Season and Keeping the Light. He
generously donated several copies to the
OIH library following his presentation!
Employee of the Month
Laxmi Niraula
Laxmi joined the OIH team in
November of 2014. Laxmi is one of
our many wonderful nurse’s aids.
When you think of Laxmi, “caring”
and “kind” immediately come to
mind!
Volunteer of the Month
Soo Woodley
Soo has been volunteering at OIH for
several years calling a weekly Trivia
game. Soo’s wit and intelligence make
her a favorite OIH volunteer!

services free of charge to OIH
residents. If you would like to
