Flu Season
Flu season is quickly
approaching! We will be
receiving our supply of Flu and
pneumonia vaccines shortly.
We will be administering Flu
vaccines to all OIH who have a
signed consent on file.
Pneumonia vaccines will be given
only if signed consent on file and
if the resident is not up to date
already. If you are unsure of your
loved one’s vaccine status, or
want to change their status
please contact Carol Matson, LPN
at extension 7411.
Please see the attached Vaccine
Information Statements for info
on the benefits and potential
risks of the vaccines.
As a reminder, we ask all families
and friends to avoid visiting Our
Island Home while experiencing
symptoms of any sickness, and
this is especially important
during Flu season (September
through April).
Donations
We would like to thank the
following individuals for their
recent monetary donations to Our
Island Home: Pauline Singleton
Joan Wilson-Godeau (in memory of
Alfred Crobsy).
We would also like to thank
Aline Nesti for the donation of
scratch tickets, which are used for
prizes in the Activities Department!
Holidays for Heros
On September 7th, Veterans of the
US Armed Forces who were
vacationing on island thanks to the
Holidays for Heros organization
came to visit with Our Island Home
residents. Pictured above are the
founders of Holidays for Heros
(standing) along with visiting
veterans and some of Our Island
Home’s resident veterans. Each
branch of the military was
represented, and it was a very
special day!
Family Council:
The next meeting is Wednesday,
Family Council meeting will be on
Wednesday, September 19th at
10:00am. The following month,
Family Council will be on
Wednesday, October 17th at
10:00am.
Halloween Party:
Please join us on Wednesday,
October 31st at 4pm in the OIH
living room for our Halloween
party- costumes provided, if you
don’t have your own!
Upcoming Musical Talent:
Jeff Ross, well known Nantucket
singer/songwriter, will perform at
OIH on October 4th!
Susan Berman is giving
performances here on September
28th, and October 11th and 18th. A
wonderful combination of original
songs and covers!
Mollie Glazer will share her
classical music with the OIH
community on September 17th and
24th, and October1st, 8th, 15th and
29th.
Paul Connors will give a folk
music show on September 27th
and October 22nd.
Steve Tornovish is returning for
encore performances on
September 20th and October 24th.
All music performances begin at
4pm, in the OIH living room.

Employee of the Month
Maria Lemus
Maria first joined the OIH team in
2006 as a nurse’s assistant. She went
back to school and became a LPN in
2008, and is now one of our fantastic
charge nurses!
Volunteer of the Month
Frances Karttunen
Every week, Fran volunteers at OIH
bringing us her “Photos with Fran”
educational lecture series/slideshow.
She is also on the board of Friends of
Our Island Home! Our Activities
Department would not be the same
without Fran’s hard work!

services free of charge to OIH
residents. If you would like to
schedule group or individual
portraits for your friend or
